First Friday Art Walks in Boothbay Harbor, Maine

On the first Friday of the months June through October, galleries in Boothbay Harbor, Boothbay and East Boothbay/Ocean Point welcome visitors to their galleries to see new work and tour their studios. All the galleries are just minutes apart by car and many are within walking distance of the historic Boothbay Harbor village.

Now in its 17th year in 2018 ... here's how it all began ... In 2000, five to eight galleries hosted receptions for an event called "Art Along The Avenues." The dates were set up to coincide with the art receptions of the Boothbay Region Art Foundation's show calendar. This was followed by hosting art tours on the last Friday of each month, known as the “Last Friday Art Tour” but, it was not highly successful. In 2001, the decision was made to adapt to the nationwide “First Fridays." Since then, The First Friday Art Tour often has 16 or more galleries participating in the afternoon to evening hour art crawl. Studios and galleries offer new art exhibits, guest artists, demonstrations, art talks and refreshments. The Boothbay Region Art Foundation serves as an umbrella for the art outreach, education, and opportunity to show artwork in a professional setting.  ~ Provided by Lynne Seitze This event is sponsored by the Boothbay Region Art Foundation.

The First Fridays Arts Tour highlights the art of the Boothbay Region. Held June through October, this free self-guided tour offers fresh art exhibits, open house receptions and artist demonstrations. Up to seventeen galleries and studios participate; all are located within minutes of each other on the Boothbay Peninsula and are open 9am – 9pm for the First Friday Arts Tour.  The Art Trail Map is in the Boothbay Harbor Chamber Guide and a list of each month’s galleries is in the Boothbay Register. Boothbay Harbor Fine Arts Dealers Association also sponsors the Second Saturday Art Walks on July 14, Aug 11, and Sept 8 from 5-8pm.
