Mid Coast Maine
Picture lobster traps and clam shacks, hidden coves and waves crashing against the rocky coast. These are the scenes you will encounter as you journey on day trips from The Harbour Towne Inn. The Mid Coast of Maine is ideal for scenic drives from Boothbay Harbor.
Whether you tour the historic ship building towns of Brunswick and Bath – home to the Maine Maritime Museum, and or you head Down East toward the seaside villages of Camden and Rockport, you will find more of Maine’s stunning scenery.
Pemaquid Point is a lovely day trip, see the famous Pemaquid Lighthouse, sunbathe on Pemaquid Beach, then lunch on fresh steamed Lobster.
Mid Coast Maine is dotted with quaint, quiet seaside towns and a few bustling fishing villages with vibrant art communities. Rockland is home to the Farnsworth Art Museum which features the largest display of Wyeth paintings, a three generation family of Maine artists.
Whether you are hunting for Maine antiques or on a quest to find the best beach or the most chock full lobster roll, the Maine Coast from Brunswick to Castine is a feast for the eyes and senses as you take in the salt air and scenery. If you are a train buff, a visit to Owls Head Transportation Museum or the Railway Museums in Wiscasset and Boothbay are just the ticket.
One of the best ways to see this part of Maine is to hike or bike. Mount Battie and Ragged Mountain in Camden offer a pleasant day hike with splendid views of Penobscot Bay. Cycling along the many peninsulas that jut out toward the sea gives a unique perspective of the quieter Maine life.
Of course, sea kayaking or boarding a three-masted schooner from one of the sailboat tour companies or hopping on an island ferries are spectacular ways to get out on the water and see the shore from a puffin or seal’s perspective.
After your day of exploring the Maine coast, you return to the comfort and charm of Harbour Towne Inn where your cozy guestroom awaits, and you can park your car and walk to the Boatbar from drinks or to seafood restaurants for some fresh Maine fare.
